- 1 lb. Great Northern beans
- 1 1/2 c. raw, diced ham
- 2 1/2 qt. water
- 3/4 c. diced carrots
- 3/4 c. diced onions
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 2 whole cloves
Directions

1Soak beans overnight in water.

2In the morning, add salt, pepper and ham.

3Simmer for 30 minutes.

4Add remaining ingredients and simmer 2 1/2 hours.

5Serve with Scalded Corn Cakes (recipe follows).
