Ingredients

  • 1 lb. Great Northern beans
  • 1 1/2 c. raw, diced ham
  • 2 1/2 qt. water
  • 3/4 c. diced carrots
  • 3/4 c. diced onions
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 2 whole cloves

Directions

    Soak beans overnight in water.

    In the morning, add salt, pepper and ham.

    Simmer for 30 minutes.

    Add remaining ingredients and simmer 2 1/2 hours.

    Serve with Scalded Corn Cakes (recipe follows).
