- 1 1/3 c. sugar
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1 oz. (equals 2 Tbsp.) anise extract (may substitute vanilla, orange, almond or rum extract)
- 3 eggs
- 2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 egg plus 1 tsp. water, beaten together (for egg wash)
Directions

1Preheat oven to 325°.

2Combine sugar, baking powder and butter.

3Blend in the extract.

4Add the eggs one at a time.

5Add the flour 1 cup at a time.

6Spoon the dough onto a greased cookie sheet to form 2 logs, 1 1/2 inches wide by 1 inch high.

7To shape the logs, wet your hands and pat the top and sides of the dough. Brush the logs with egg wash and bake 20 minutes.
