  • 6 Winesap apples or other cooking apples
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. water
  • 1/4 c. red wine or sherry
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 tsp. cornstarch
  • 1 stick cinnamon, broken into pieces
  • red food coloring

Directions

    Peel and quarter apples.

    Mix together other ingredients. Pour over apples in a 9 x 12-inch baking dish.

    Bake at 275° for 1 hour.

    Baste every now and then.

    Serve warm or cold with ham, pork roast or chops or barbecue.
