- 1/2 c butter
- 1/2 c shortening
- 2 c sugar
- 5 egg yolks
- 2 c sifted plain flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 c butter milk
- 1 tsp walnut flavoring
- 1 7 oz can flaked coconut
- 1 c black walnuts
- 5 beaten egg whites
Directions

1Cream sugar, butter, shortening, and egg yolks.

2Beat until smooth. combine dry ingredients.

3Add to creamed mixture.

4Add buttermilk and flavoring mix well.

5Add coconut and nuts. mix well. Gently fold in beaten egg whites with a wooden spoon.

6Grease and flour three 9 inch cake pans.

7Pour batter in.

8Bake at 325° for 20 to 25 minutes.

9Let Cool.
