  • 3 eggs
  • 2 c. blackberries, drained
  • 1 c. apple butter
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. flour (plain)
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 1 tsp. cloves

    Cream the shortening and sugar together, then add berries and apple butter.

    Add the unbeaten eggs and add buttermilk with the soda mixture and beat well.

    Add the spices.

    Bake in a 350° oven until toothpick comes out clean; bake in a long bread pan (makes a big cake).
