  • 1 1/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp. soda
  • 1 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/4 c. graham flour
  • 1 c. chopped California walnuts
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 c. packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. light molasses
  • 3/4 c. buttermilk
  • 3 Tbsp. melted shortening

Directions

    Sift all-purpose flour with baking powder, soda and salt. Stir in graham flour and walnuts.

    Beat egg lightly; beat in brown sugar, molasses, buttermilk and shortening.

    Stir into dry mixture, just until all of the flour is moistened.

    Spoon into 3 greased 1-pound size cans or 3 small loaf pans.

    Bake at 350° for 45 minutes, or until bread tests done.

    Let stand for 10 minutes. Turn out onto wire racks.

    Serve warm or cold.
