Broiled Tomatoes

  • 4 large ripe tomatoes
  • 4 tsp. sugar
  • 2 tsp. chopped fresh basil or 1 tsp. dried basil
  • 1/4 c. minced onion
  • fine dried bread crumbs
  • butter or margarine

Directions

    Cut top off tomatoes and put on baking sheet.

    Sprinkle lightly with crumbs and dot with butter.
  3. 3
    Broil until heated and lightly browned on top (or bake tomatoes in hot oven, 425°, for about 10 minutes).

    Sometimes I use fresh bread cubes.

    Melt the butter in a very small pan and add bread cubes, stirring, until butter is absorbed.

    Then place the bread cubes on top of the tomatoes.
