- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1 1/2 c. warm water (105~ to 115~), divided
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 c. butter or margarine, melted
- 1 tsp. salt
- 4 1/2 to 5 c. all-purpose flour
- 3 Tbsp. butter or margarine, softened and divided
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water in a large bowl; let stand 5 minutes.

2Add remaining 1 cup water and next 4 ingredients, stirring well.

3Add enough flour to make a soft dough.

4Turn dough out onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic (about 4 minutes).

5Place in a well-greased bowl, turning to grease top.

6Cover; let rise in a warm place (85°) free from drafts, for 1 hour or until doubled in bulk.
