- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt (optional)
- 1/3 c. vegetable shortening
- 3/4 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Heat oven to 450°.

2In large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt (if desired).

3Using a fork, mix well.

4Using pastry blender, cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

5Add buttermilk.

6Using fork mix just until mixture forms soft dough and leaves sides of bowl (it may be a bit sticky).
