  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt (optional)
  • 1/3 c. vegetable shortening
  • 3/4 c. buttermilk

Directions

    Heat oven to 450°.

    In large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt (if desired).

    Using a fork, mix well.

    Using pastry blender, cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

    Add buttermilk.

    Using fork mix just until mixture forms soft dough and leaves sides of bowl (it may be a bit sticky).
