Buttermilk Lemon Pound Cake

  • 3 c. sugar
  • 3 c. flour, sifted
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1/4 tsp. soda
  • 2 tsp. lemon flavor
  • 1 c. Crisco
  • 6 eggs, separated
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. vanilla

    Mix flour, soda and salt; set aside.

    Mix milk and flavorings; set aside.

    Cream Crisco and sugar until light and fluffy.

    Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each.

    Add flour mixture alternately with milk, beat after each addition until smooth.

    Beat egg whites until stiff and carefully fold into mixture.

    Pour into greased and floured 9-inch tube pan.

    Bake at 325° for 1 hour and 40 minutes.

    Leave in pan for 15 minutes.
