Buttermilk Lemon Pound Cake

- 3 c. sugar
- 3 c. flour, sifted
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1/4 tsp. soda
- 2 tsp. lemon flavor
- 1 c. Crisco
- 6 eggs, separated
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Mix flour, soda and salt; set aside.

2Mix milk and flavorings; set aside.

3Cream Crisco and sugar until light and fluffy.

4Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each.

5Add flour mixture alternately with milk, beat after each addition until smooth.

6Beat egg whites until stiff and carefully fold into mixture.

7Pour into greased and floured 9-inch tube pan.

8Bake at 325° for 1 hour and 40 minutes.

9Leave in pan for 15 minutes.

10Turn out onto plate and cover.
