  • 3 c. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 c. sifted flour
  • 1/4 tsp. soda
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 2 Tbsp. almond flavoring or flavor as desired

    Cream the sugar and shortening. Add eggs, one at a time. Combine flour, soda and salt. Add alternately with the buttermilk. Add flavoring. Bake 1 1/2 hours at 325°.
