Ingredients: 2 c. flour; 1 2/3 c. white sugar; 2/3 c. cocoa; 2/3 c. shortening or 1/3 c. shortening and 1/3 c. unsweetened applesauce; 1 1/4 tsp. soda; 1/4 tsp. baking powder; 1 tsp. vanilla; salt to taste; 1 1/2 c. cold water; 3 eggs

1/4 tsp. baking powder

salt to taste
1 1/2 c. cold water
3 eggs

Directions

Beat together the flour, sugar, cocoa, shortening and/or applesauce, soda, baking powder, vanilla and salt.

Add 1 cup cold water and 1 egg; mix well.

Add 1/2 cup cold water and 2 eggs; mix well.

Bake at 350° for 40 minutes, or until it tests done.
