  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 3 Tbsp. melted margarine
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. cocoa
  • 1 c. all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • whipped cream or topping (optional)

Directions

    Sift 3/4 cup sugar, flour, 2 tablespoons cocoa, baking powder and salt together into a 9-inch square pan.

    Stir in milk, margarine and vanilla.

    Spread evenly in pan.

    Combine 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/4 c.

    cocoa.

    Sprinkle over cake batter in pan.

    Pour water over top.

    Bake at 350° for 40 minutes. Serve with whipped cream or topping, if desired.
