- 3/4 c. boiling water
- 1/2 c. cocoa
- 1 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 1 3/4 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. cooking oil
- 8 unbeaten egg yolks
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 8 egg whites, stiffly beaten
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
Directions

1Heat oven to 325°.

2Bake for 65 to 70 minutes.

3Combine boiling water and cocoa.

4Cool.

5Sift flour, sugar, soda and salt into mixing bowl.

6Make a well; add in order the oil, egg yolks, cocoa mixture and vanilla.

7Beat with a spoon until smooth.

8In a large bowl, beat egg whites and cream of tartar to very stiff peaks, about 12 to 15 minutes.

9Do not underbeat.

10Pour egg yolk mixture over egg whites.

11Fold in with a rubber spatula until blended.

12Pour into ungreased 10-inch tube pan.

13Cool upside down in pan on a funnel for 4 hours.
