  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/3 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. milk
  • 2 (1 oz.) sq. unsweetened chocolate, grated or chopped
  • 3 slightly beaten egg yolks
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

    In a saucepan, combine sugar, flour and salt.

    Gradually stir in milk and then chocolate pieces.

    Cook and stir over medium high heat until bubbly.

    Cook and stir exactly 2 minutes more.

    Remove from heat.

    Stir a moderate amount of hot mixture into yolks; immediately return to hot mixture.

    Cook exactly 2 minutes more stirring constantly.

    Remove from heat.

    Add butter and vanilla. Pour into cooled baked pastry shell*.

    Spread meringue atop pie and bake at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes.
