- 2 c. sifted cake flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 2/3 c. milk
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 c. sugar
- 2 c. butter or margarine
- 3 egg whites, stiffly beaten
Directions

1Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder and salt, and sift together three times.

2Cream butter thoroughly, add sugar gradually and cream together until light and fluffy.

3Add flour, alternately with milk, a small amount at a time.

4Beat after each addition until smooth.

5Add vanilla and fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake in 2 greased 9-inch layer pans in moderate oven for 25 to 30 minutes.

6Put layers together and cover top and sides with soft chocolate frosting.

7Sprinkle sides with nuts.
