Chocolate Orange Layer Cake

  • 1 box (18.25 Oz. Box) Chocolate Cake Mix (Devil's Food), Prepared And Cooled
  • 12 ounces, weight Cream Cheese, Softened
  • 6 Tablespoons Butter, Softened
  • 6 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Orange Zest
  • 8 drops Yellow Food Coloring
  • 4 drops Red Food Coloring
  • 3 ounces, weight Semisweet Bakers Chocolate
  • 1/2 tubs (8 Oz. Tub) Cool Whip (Do Not Thaw)

Directions

    Bake cake as directed on the box for two 9-inch cake pans. Let cool.

    Beat cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, orange zest, yellow food coloring, and red food coloring until well-blended.

    Cut each cooled cake into two layers. Spread 3/4 cup of frosting btween each layer, then frost top and sides with remaining frosting. Microwave chocolate squares and Cool Whip for 2 minutes, stirring after each minute. Let cool for 15 minutes, pour on cake and let it run down the sides.
