  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 3 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 (4 oz.) pkg. German sweet chocolate, melted

    Cream the shortening and sugar in a bowl.

    Beat in eggs, vanilla and buttermilk.

    Sift in flour, soda and salt.

    Stir until blended.

    Add chocolate.

    Mix well.

    Pour into a greased and floured tube pan.

    Bake at 300° for 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until cake tests done.
