Chocolate Praline Layer Cake

  • 1/2 c. or 1 stick butter or margarine
  • 1/4 c. whipping cream
  • 1 c. packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 c. chopped pecans
  • pecan halves and chocolate curls (for garnish; optional)
  • 1 pkg. devil's food cake mix
  • 1 1/4 c. water
  • 1/3 c. vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs

    oven to 325°. Grease 2 (8 or 9-inch) round cake pans. Combine butter, whipping cream and brown sugar in a small saucepan. Cook over low heat just until butter is melted, stirring occasionally. Pour evenly into prepared pans; sprinkle evenly with chopped pecans. Combine cake mix, water, oil and eggs in a large bowl; beat at low speed until moistened and then beat at high speed for 2 minutes. Carefully spoon batter over praline mixture in pans. Bake 35 minutes or until cake springs back when lightly touched with finger. Cool layers in pans on wire racks for 10 minutes. Loosen edges and remove to racks to cool completely.
