Ingredients: 2 pkg. (1 lb.) dates; 3/4 lb. (1 1/2 jars) cherries; 1 lb. pecans; 1 c. sugar; 4 eggs, separated; 1 c. flour; 2 tsp. baking powder; 2 tsp. vanilla; 1 1/2 jiggers whiskey

1 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 jiggers whiskey

Place pan of water in bottom of oven. Chop

and pecans; add cherries (candied cherries or maraschino is preferred).

Add vanilla and liquid (wine or grape juice can be substituted for whiskey) to fruit and nuts. Stir

beaten egg yolks.

Stir in dry ingredients and fold in beaten egg whites.

Batter will appear stiff and be mostly

Decorate top with nuts and cherries. Bake cake at least 1 hour and 10 minutes.
