  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 12 cup molasses
  • 12 cup brown sugar
  • 12 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 12 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 14 teaspoon salt
  • 14 teaspoon mace
  • 12 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 12 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 12 teaspoon allspice

Directions

    Combine butter, molasses, brown sugar, and buttermilk in a medium saucepan over low heat.

    Heat until butter is melted and remove from heat.

    When cool, beat in egg.

    In a bowl, combine flour, baking soda, spices and salt; fold into moist ingredients.

    Turn into a greased and floured 9-inch cake pan and bake in the middle of a preheated 350 F oven for 30 minutes or until a tester comes out clean.
