Ingredients
- 1 lb. pinto beans
- chopped ham pieces to taste
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp. ground cumin
- 1/2 Tbsp. marjoram
- 1/2 lb. bacon or salt pork
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 pt. tomatoes, broken up
- 1 Tbsp. chili powder
- 1 (4 oz.) can chopped green chilies
Directions

1Cover beans with water and bring to boil and let cook 2 minutes.

2Turn off heat and let set 1 hour.

3Add ham, bacon, onion and garlic.

4Again bring to boil, turn down, and simmer until beans are cooked.

5Pour off part of juice and reserve.

6Add tomatoes and spices and cook for about 1/2 hour longer.

7Add some reserved juice to keep beans from sticking.
