- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1 egg
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 3 1/2 c. flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. melted butter
- 1/2 c. currants
Directions

1Beat together buttermilk, egg and sugars.

2Sift 3 cups flour with baking powder, baking soda and salt.

3Add 2/3 flour mixture to buttermilk and stir well.

4Gradually add butter; incorporate thoroughly into mixture.

5Stir in rest of flour mixture and currants; may need to add more flour.

6Turn dough onto lightly floured board; knead several minutes.

7Divide into 3 parts, each a circle 4 to 5-inches across.

8Cut into quarters and arrange on buttered cookie sheet.

9Bake at 400° for 20 to 25 minutes.

10Makes 12 scones.
