Ingredients

  • 1 c. chopped onion
  • 2 to 4 Tbsp. bacon drippings
  • 1 (1 lb.) can tomatoes
  • 4 green onions, chopped
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1/2 bay leaf
  • 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 head cabbage
  • grated Cheddar cheese

Directions

    In a big iron skillet, saute yellow onion in bacon drippings. Add all other ingredients except cabbage and simmer 30 minutes. Remove bay leaf and cloves.

    Cut cabbage in serving wedges, leaving enough of the core to hold head together.

    Boil 10 minutes.

    Put cabbage in serving dish.

    Pour sauce over and sprinkle with cheese.
