- 3 c. sifted flour
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 1/3 c. milk
- 1/4 c. shortening, melted
- 1/2 c. nuts
- 1 c. chopped dates
Directions

1Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.

2Add brown sugar. Combine egg and milk; add milk mixture and shortening to flour. Mix enough to dampen flour.

3Fold in nuts and dates.

4Pour into 9 x 5 x 3-inch pan.

5Bake in moderate oven (350°) for 1 hour and 5 minutes.

6Cool.
