- 2 1/2 c. flour, sifted
- 1/4 tsp. soda
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1/3 c. shortening
- butter, melted
Directions

1Sift together flour, soda and sugar.

2Warm milk slowly; do not overheat.

3Dissolve yeast in buttermilk.

4Cut shortening into flour mixture as for biscuits.

5Stir in buttermilk and dry ingredients.

6Turn dough out onto floured board; knead just until smooth.

7Roll to 1/4-inch thickness; cut with biscuit cutter. Brush top of each round with melted butter.

8Place one biscuit on top of another, making double biscuits.

9Cover; let rise about 1 hour until light and doubled.

10Bake in 375° oven for 12 to 15 minutes.

11Yields 18 biscuits.
