  • 1 cake or pkg. yeast
  • 1 c. warm buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. shortening

    Dissolve yeast in warm buttermilk; set aside.

    Sift soda, salt, sugar and flour into a bowl.

    Cut in shortening.

    Add yeast mixture.

    Stir until blended.

    Knead and roll 1/2-inch thick. Cut.

    Dip in melted butter.

    Place in greased pan; let rise 1 hour. Bake at 400° for 12 minutes.
