  • 2 c sugar
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 c crisco
  • 2 tbsp rounded up, cocoa
  • 3 eggs well beaten
  • 1 tsp soda dissolved in 1 c buttermilk
  • 2 1/4 c plain or cake flour

Directions

    Mix cloves, cinnamon and cocoa in sugar, then cream in crisco, beat eggs and cream, add buttermilk with soda dissolved in it alternating with flour.

    Beat on medium speed about two minutes.

    Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.
