  • cucumbers
  • fresh head of dill
  • 1/4 tsp. powdered alum
  • 1 Tbsp. pickling spice or clove garlic (optional)
  • 3 c. water
  • 1 c. vinegar
  • 1/8 c. pickling salt (use only pickling salt)

Directions

    Pack washed, small cucumbers (3 to 4-inches long) as perpendicularly as possible in quart or half-gallon jars.

    Before packing cucumbers into jars, put a fresh head of dill in bottom of jar.

    Then place one on top.

    Put powdered alum in top of each jar.
