- 2 1/2 c sugar
- 1/2 c light corn syrup
- 1/2 c water
- 2 egg whites
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/4 tsp. salt
Directions

1In heavy (2-quart) saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, water and salt.

2Cook and stir until sugar dissolves and mixture boils. Cook over medium heat (candy thermometer reaches 250, hard boil stage), without stirring and bubbling over entire surface.

3As temperature nears 250, beat egg whites to stiff peaks.

4Gradually pour hot syrup in thin stream over egg whites, beating at high speed; beat 4-5 minutes more until mixture holds its shape.

5Drop by teaspoonfuls onto waxed paper or spread in buttered 10x6 inch dish.

6Cool and cut into squares.

7Makes 3 dozen pieces.

8May add candied cherries or chopped nuts after 5 minutes beating time.
