Ingredients
- 60 g butter or 60 g margarine
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
- 1 teaspoon hot water
- 3/4 cup apple puree
- 1 cup wholemeal self-rising flour
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
- 1/4 cup chopped pitted dates
- 2 teaspoons slivered almonds
Directions

1Set oven at 180dg c .

2Grease and line a 200mm bar tin.

3Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

4Mix bi-carb and water. Stir bi-carb mixture into all other ingredients (except almonds)and mix well.

5Place in pan and sprinkle with the slivered almonds.

6Bake for 45 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.

7Cool on rack and cut into bars.

8Serve warm with whipped cream or cold.
