Ingredients

  • 3 c. cooked garbanzo beans
  • 1/4 c. liquid from beans
  • 1/4 c. wheat germ
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 4 Tbsp. chopped parsley
  • 1/4 c. sesame seed
  • 1 tsp. cumin
  • 1 tsp. chili powder
  • 1/4 c. lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp. basil
  • 3/4 c. wheat germ

Directions

    Place beans and liquid in blender and puree.

    Put in bowl; add all ingredients except 3/4 cup wheat germ.

    Roll into 1 1/2-inch balls.

    Add enough wheat germ so balls will hold together.

    Bake at 400° for about 15 minutes (place on cookie sheet).

    Serve in heated pita bread (2 or 3 balls) with lettuce, tomato, alfalfa sprouts and tahini dressing.

    Makes 20 to 24 balls.
