  • For Bars:
  • 1 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 c. quick-cooking oats
  • 2/3 c. brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 c. margerine or butter
  • 1/2 - 1 c. Fig Preserves
  • For Fig Preserves:
  • 6 pounds figs, unpeeled
  • 6 pounds sugar

    In a medium bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar and baking soda. Cut in margerine or butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside 1/2 of flour mixture. In a greased 9x9x2 inch baking pan, press all but reserved flour mixture into bottom. Spread with fig preserves onto the flour mixture so that it is completely covered. Sprinkle the reserved 1/2 cup flour mixture on top. Bake for 30-35 minutes on 350 degrees. Allow to cool completely before cutting into bars.
