French Onion Steak

  • 2 to 3 lb. steak (top round)
  • oil (for frying)
  • 1 envelope onion soup mix
  • 3 c. hot water
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • 1 tsp. seasoned pepper

Directions

    Cut steak into serving pieces.

    Trim off excess fat and pound flour into both sides of each piece.

    Brown each piece in hot oil. In Dutch oven, add steak, soup mix (undiluted), hot water and seasonings.

    Cover and simmer slowly until fork-tender, about 1 1/2 hours.

    Thicken gravy with cornstarch.

    For darker gravy, use Kitchen Bouquet.

    Great served with creamed potatoes.
