- 1/4 c. shortening
- 1/4 c. molasses
- 1 c. hot water
- 1/4 tsp. ginger
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 2 c. sifted flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
Directions

1Grease and flour 10 x 15-inch pan.

2Add salt to shortening and mix.

3Add sugar gradually and cream it.

4Mix in egg and molasses. Sift together flour, baking soda and spices.

5Add to first mixture alternating with hot water.

6Bake in floured pan for 30 minutes. Let cool and frost with buttercream frosting.
