  • 1 c. Crisco
  • 2 c. light brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 3 1/2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 c. finely chopped, candied fruit
  • 1 1/2 c. chopped dates
  • 1 1/2 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Blend Crisco and brown sugar.

    Stir in eggs and buttermilk. Add combined dry ingredients and beat until smooth.

    Stir in fruit and nuts.

    Drop from a teaspoon 2 inches apart on a baking sheet which has been rubbed with Crisco.

    Bake in moderate oven (375°) for about 12 minutes or until lightly browned.

    Makes 10 dozen 1 1/2-inch cookies.
