- 2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 1 c. dark molasses
- 3/4 c. hot water
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 3/4 tsp. salt
Directions

1Preheat oven to 325°.

2Grease and flour square 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan.

3Measure all ingredients into large mixing bowl.

4Blend 1/2 minute on low speed, scraping bowl constantly.

5Beat 3 minutes at medium speed, scraping bowl occasionally.

6Pour into pan.

7Bake 50 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.

8Serve warm and, if desired, with whipping cream.
