- 1/2 c. butter or lard
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 egg
- 1 c. dark molasses
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 2 c. plain flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
Directions

1In a mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar; stir in ginger, cinnamon and salt.

2Add egg.

3Beat until well blended. Stir in molasses and buttermilk.

4Sift together flour and soda. Combine with batter, beating just until flour is incorporated. Pour into a greased 10-inch iron skillet.

5Bake in a 325° oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until done.
