- 1 1/3 c. flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. ginger
- 4 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 1/4 c. light brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c. boiling water
- 1/2 c. dark molasses
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
Directions

1Sift flour with baking powder, spices and salt; set aside. Cream butter with sugar until light and fluffy.

2Add egg and beat thoroughly.

3Combine boiling water and molasses.

4Stir in soda until dissolved and add to batter.

5Gradually add flour mixture, stirring well between each addition.

6Pour into a well-greased 8-inch square pan or 8-inch loaf pan.

7Bake at 350° for 20 to 30 minutes.

8Cool in pan until gingerbread shrinks away from sides and then invert onto rack and cool completely.
