- 1/3 c. soft shortening
- 1 c. brown sugar, packed
- 1 1/2 c. dark molasses
- 2/3 c. cold water
- 7 c. flour
- 2 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. allspice
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1 tsp. cloves, ground
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
Directions

1Mix shortening, brown sugar and molasses thoroughly.

2Stir in water.

3Measure flour.

4Blend all dry ingredients.

5Add to first mixture.

6Chill.

7Heat oven to 350°.

8Roll 1/2 inch thick.

9Cut with 2 1/2-inch round cutter.

10Place far apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet.

11Bake about 15 minutes or until no imprint remains when touched lightly.

12Frost cooled cookies with creamy icing.

13Makes 2 2/3 dozen cookies.
