- 2 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1 c. warm water
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. flour
- 1 1/4 c. milk
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 tsp. salt
- 2 c. flour
- 3 Tbsp. soft shortening
Directions

1Beat first 5 ingredients until smooth.

2Cover; let stand in a warm place 15 minutes.

3Scald milk, then cool to warm.

4Add milk, 2 tablespoons sugar, 2 teaspoons salt, 2 cups flour and 3 tablespoons shortening to yeast mixture.

5Beat 2 minutes with a mixer.

6Gradually stir in about 3 1/2 cups flour to make a very stiff dough.

7Roll out dough on a floured surface to 1/2 inch thickness; fold in half.

8Roll and fold 4 more times.

9Divide in half.

10Cover with bowl; let rest 10 minutes.
