  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. cooking oil or a 2-inch square fat back
  • water

    Combine ingredients, adding water to top of beans.

    Cover. Cook beans until they are tender.

    Remove the lid and dry all the water out, stirring often.
