- 1 large Hershey bar
- 11 oz. Hershey's chocolate syrup
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 c. sugar
- 4 eggs
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- pinch of salt
- 1 c. buttermilk, with 1/2 tsp. soda dissolved
- 2 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Melt chocolate bar in 6 ounces chocolate syrup over very low heat.

2Add remaining syrup, stirring to be sure all candy is dissolved and smooth.

3Set aside to cool.

4Cream shortening and sugar.

5Add eggs (1 at a time), beating after each.

6Add syrup mixture (it should be cool).

7Add flour and buttermilk (with soda dissolved in it) alternately.

8Add vanilla last.

9Bake at 325° (tube cake pan) one hour depending upon oven; some may take longer.

10Just insert toothpick to be sure of doneness.

11No icing necessary.

12This cake freezes very well.
