- 4 egg whites
- 3 c. flour (cake flour)
- 1/2 to 1 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. hickory nut, cut in pieces
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 4 tsp. baking powder
- 1 c. milk
Directions

1Cream shortening and sugar.

2Sift flour, baking powder and salt together three times.

3Alternate flour and milk; add hickory nuts along with flour and vanilla and stiffly beaten egg whites.

4Pour into 2 (8-inch) cake pans.

5Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.
