  • 2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 Tbsp. milk
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda

    Cream the brown sugar and shortening.

    Add eggs, one at a time.

    Add milk and vanilla.

    Sift dry ingredients together and blend into sugar mixture.

    Add nuts.

    Roll in wax paper in log form.

    Chill until very firm.

    Slice into bars.

    Bake at 375° for 8 minutes.
