Italian Anisette Rolls

  • 7 c. sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 c. scalded milk
  • 1 stick butter
  • 3 tsp. salt
  • 3 pkg. yeast, dissolved in 1/2 c. warm water
  • 6 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 Tbsp. Anisette

Directions

    Add butter to scalded milk to soften. Make a well in flour and add salt, sugar, milk, butter, egg, flavoring and dissolved yeast. Mix to a soft dough. Let rise and double in size.

    Break off three pieces the size of an egg and roll each piece into a rope.

    Pinch rope together at one end and braid.

    Brush with milk and sprinkle with poppy seed.

    Let rise and bake at 425° until done.
