Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 to 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 can tomato puree
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • 2 to 3 cans water
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. dried basil, crushed
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 lb. cottage cheese
  • 8 oz. Mozzarella cheese, coarsely ground
  • 1/4 c. Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 Tbsp. chopped parsley
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1 pkg. (8 oz.) lasagna noodles

    Brown meat.

    If using sausage, remove casings.

    Drain off excess fat.

    Add remaining ingredients, except cheese, and simmer 30 to 45 minutes until slightly thickened.

    Cook noodles in 4 quarts boiling salted water, with 1 tablespoon cooking oil added. Stir gently.

    Cook approximately 15 minutes or until tender.

    Do not overcook.

    Drain and rinse.
