Lipton Pepper Steak

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. boneless chuck steak, cut off all fat
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 envelope onion soup mix
  • 2 medium green peppers, cut in strips
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 small can chopped mushrooms
  • water (optional), 2 small cans tomato sauce and 2 c. water *

    Cut meat into thin strips, 2-inches long.

    In a large skillet, heat shortening and brown meat trimmings.

    Stir in onion soup mix and *2 cups water.

    Cover and simmer 30 minutes (until meat is tender).

    Stir in peppers and simmer, covered, 10 minutes.

    Blend cornstarch with 1/2 cup water.

    Stir into skillet mixture. Cook until thickened.
