- 1 1/2 lb. boneless chuck steak, cut off all fat
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 1 envelope onion soup mix
- 2 medium green peppers, cut in strips
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. flour
- 1 small can chopped mushrooms
- water (optional), 2 small cans tomato sauce and 2 c. water *
Directions

1Cut meat into thin strips, 2-inches long.

2In a large skillet, heat shortening and brown meat trimmings.

3Stir in onion soup mix and *2 cups water.

4Cover and simmer 30 minutes (until meat is tender).

5Stir in peppers and simmer, covered, 10 minutes.

6Blend cornstarch with 1/2 cup water.

7Stir into skillet mixture. Cook until thickened.
