  • 1 lb. Italian sweet sausage links
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 (16 oz.) cans tomato puree
  • 1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • basil
  • salt
  • 1 (8 oz.) pkg. manicotti shells (16)
  • 4 c. Ricotta cheese
  • 1 (8 oz.) pkg. Mozzarella cheese, diced
  • 2 1/2 Tbsp. chopped parsley
  • fresh grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

    Cook sausage links in Dutch oven until brown.

    Drain in paper toweling and remove fat from pan.

    Brown ground beef and onion well; stir in tomato puree, paste, sugar, pepper, 1 teaspoon basil, 1 teaspoon salt and 1 cup water.

    Simmer, covered, for 45 minutes. Cut sausage into bite-size pieces and add to mixture.

    Cook 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    In the meantime, cook manicotti as label directs; drain in colander.

    Preheat oven to 375°.
