Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 egg, beaten slightly
  • 1/2 c. bread crumbs
  • 2 Tbsp. minced onion
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/3 c. milk
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 Tbsp. oil (for frying)
  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 2 1/2 c. (No. 2) can whole tomatoes and juice
  • 1 1/2 c. peeled, sliced potatoes
  • 1 1/2 c. sliced carrots
  • 1 c. sliced onion
  • 1 c. sliced celery
  • 1 c. frozen peas
  • 1/2 green pepper, cut in strips
  • 1 tsp. salt

Directions

    Mix ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, minced onion, Worcestershire sauce, milk, salt and pepper in a small bowl.

    Mix well together and form in balls.

    Heat oil in frypan over medium heat and brown balls.

    Remove balls from frypan.

    Add 3 tablespoons of flour to drippings in pan.

    If necessary add a bit more oil or butter to mix the flour.

    Then add 2 1/2 cups (a No. 2 can) whole tomatoes and juice.

    Stir and let simmer to get thickened.
